So you want to live with more intention, you want to be more successful at ignoring your brain’s constant stream babble… but how?

Which is to say, practice, practice, practice.

Let me ask you a question. What do you do well? Everyone has at least one thing. Maybe you are good at crafting, maybe you can make a perfect pie crust, maybe you can shuffle cards like a Vegas shark. Whatever it is,  you didn’t get good at it by doing it once, twice or even just 10 times.

Practice isn’t the thing you do once you’re good. It’s the thing you do that makes you good.

In fact, researchers have settled on what they believe is the magic number for true expertise: ten thousand hours.

Well! If “researchers” are right, that’s a lot of hours. There are 40 hours in a work week, 52 weeks in a year… so let’s see, if you practiced full time with no breaks for just under 5 years, you’d be an expert! In the meantime, life goes on. I bring up this Gladwell quote not to make you feel hopeless, but to show you that you will not come by a more peaceful, productive, focused life without some elbow grease. And, you will not execute it perfectly the first time you try.

Not only that, but there’s a lot of struggle in this path. It’s not the easy route. It’s the hard, frustrating, tiring route.

But the payoff is so worth it.

Just like you start feeling stronger after a few weeks or months of working out, practicing awareness and acceptance on a regular basis will make you feel like an emotional SUPERSTAR. Seriously. Give it a try!
